Ronald Burnett

Ron was called to the bar in 1975 and has practised family and civil litigation since that time. He has extensive trial experience in family law and child welfare. He has appeared in all Ontario Courts including the Ontario Court of Justice (Family Division), Superior Court of Justice, Unified Family Court, Divisional Court and the Ontario Court of Appeal in both family and child welfare cases. He is certified by the Law Society as a specialist in family law and has maintained that certification continuously since 1992.

Ron has also been actively involved in the representation of the Windsor-Essex Children’s Aid Society from 1991 to the present. In addition to child protection cases, he has represented the Society at expunction hearings including hearings before the Tribunal and appeals to both the Divisional Court and the Court of Appeal. He has provided representation and consultation with respect to civil and human rights proceedings commenced against the Society.

In addition to the litigation practice, Ron has historically provided training programs for Society workers to assist them in understanding, preparing for, and being involved in the Court process.

Ron has been a primary instructor for Continuing Legal Education Programs focused on child welfare. Additionally, he was a lecturer on child welfare law at the Bar Admission Course in Windsor for a number of years.

Ron has also provided case specific representation to both Chatham-Kent Children’s Services and the Sarnia-Lambton Children’s Aid Society.
